TRACY'S FUTURE
In the 1980's Tracy experienced a growth spurt as people moved to Tracy to seek a more affordable alternative to Bay Area home prices and to enjoy a less hectic, more family oriented way of life. This was the beginning of steady growth for the community which has attracted retail businesses like the Prime Outlet Mall, Olive Garden, Marshall's, Costco, Home Depot, Pet Smart, Starbucks, Pier One Imports, Best Buy, Applebee's, Chevy's Fresh Mex and the Tracy Auto Mall, just to name a few.
Today the population has increased to more than 75,000 and is expected to grow to 90,000 by the year 2020. While residential development will be the major growth factor, light industrial and office park development will create additional job centers in Tracy. These will be concentrated along the Freeways I-580 & I-205 and will be gear toward the "hi-tech" companies expanding from their Silicon Valley bases. The City is developing the first Class A office park called Tracy Gateway. This project is located along 11th Street and Lammers Road and will include six million square feet of office space, a commercial/retail center, as well as the Robert Trent Jones 9-hole executive golf course.
Tracy has a bright future. Located 60 miles east of San Francisco and 60 miles south of Sacramento, the continued diversification of the local economy is a priority as proven in the strategy to recruit business parks and "hi-tech" companies. Those still commuting to the Bay Area will benefit from Tracy's commitment to transportation enhancements. Yet, for those of us that live here, the center of Tracy's allure will continue to be its small town charm, abundance of parks, excellent schools and desirable quality of life.
